Dear Expecting Parent(s),
Thank you for the opportunity to introduce ourselves to you and to show you what a home like ours would be like for a child. It is by no means an easy decision to come to and first we would like to take a moment to commend you for the strength and courage it’s taken to come to this conclusion for you and your child.
We are Amanda and Michael. We have been together for over 5 years. We are a very family orientated couple, Michael with his large family and Amanda with her very close family. We have wanted a child since before we were engaged, and somehow both of us knew that adoption was going to be our path. We have had fertility issues, but those do not make us sad or regretful, instead it gives us the chance to welcome a life into ours and show that family is about the connections you make more than the blood you share. A special note, Amanda’s father is adopted, something which has shown us how amazing this decision can be in our lives.
Our story is a funny one, and something Michael loves recounting to our friends often. Our first date was at a beach side restaurant, where we stayed for 3 hours talking and had only ordered drinks. We were so completely captivated by each other we forgot to eat. From there we’ve had and continue to go on many dates. Michael proposed a few years later, and a year after that we were married. We love being with both sides of our family, Michael with his nephews and niece, Amanda with her Uncles and Aunts.
We live in a very open home, with 2 full living rooms and a large front and backyard. We love entertaining family and friends with barbeques and game nights. Our neighborhood is very peaceful, with several elementary/middle schools within walking distance and amazing neighbors surrounding us on all sides.
We want a child for one simple reason, we want someone to pour our love and knowledge into. We both know that children are a product of their environment, and want the chance to raise a child in a home of love, understanding, respect, and curiosity. Curiosity may have caught your eye, and it is something that we believe should be encouraged as it drives passion and a thirst for knowledge. We want to assure you that if we are selected, your child will be encouraged to grow and excel in life in all aspects, while being supported and cared for with unconditional love.
Michael about Amanda,
Amanda is the most compassionate, understanding and selfless person I have ever met. She has reinvented herself professionally from a Dental Specialties Assistant into a Relationship Executive, all through embracing the idea that anything is possible with hard work. She is also an avid skydiver, and has placed in the national championships. She is one of the safest athletes I have ever seen, after a long life around many sports. She was also an accomplished skydiving instructor, teaching many students how to thrive in the sport and still mentors to this day.
Amanda has showcased her maternal instincts with her niece and nephews, encouraging their love of animals, swimming, reading, and caring for their infant brothers or sisters. She also connects with my second cousins who are teenagers in a deep and impactful way, helping to encourage them to stay focused in school and handle the challenges of middle school. Amanda will be an amazing mother, of that I have no doubt. Her heart is as large as anyone’s; her desire to nurture, protect, inform, and instill strong values are some of her best attributes. It is for these reasons and so many more that I know Amanda will be an amazing mother.
Amanda about Michael
Michael grew up in a coastal town with two older brothers and both of his parents. While growing up he participated in several sports including swimming, wrestling and football. More often than not, there was always a friend or two who was brought home and welcomed for dinner. Michael also went on to coach High School wrestling and football while he was in college. Being able to teach a part of the next generation core life skills such as teamwork and integrity through the context of sport has been one of the most rewarding experiences for Michael in his life.
Michael went on to graduate from college with a Major in International Business and with a minor is Religious Studies. When he’s not working as a Fleet Manager you can often find him working on projects like the custom garden bench he built for Amanda, playing different video games, reading different Star Wars and historical books, or catching up on the latest DC or Marvel universe film.
Michael is a caring and devoted uncle to several nephews and a niece. While we may have an unspoken rule for the adults that they may not show favoritism to the children, it’s clear in the children’s eyes that he is theirs. With each of them, he spends individual time with them. On their level. Learning whatever it is that they have a special interest in. Whether it be anything about Star Wars (a long family favorite) or helping them to learn to swim, making up a story to a book that has no words but only pictures, the children know that his attention is fully theirs. It is because of this and many other things that Amanda knows that Michael will make a great father.
We Thank You, from the bottom of our hearts, for giving us a chance to grow our family.
