Gantry & Tracy
Dear Birth Mother,
Hello, our names are Gantry & Tracy, and we thank you for reading our letter. We admire the courage and love it has taken for you to consider the choice of adoption. We understand that this can be a very difficult and stressful time for you, and we hope that you take comfort knowing that you are giving an enormous gift to a loving family. Therefore, we would like to take this opportunity to give you a brief glimpse into our lives, our home, and our hearts.
We met thirteen years ago through our mutual friends, Heather and Timmy, and it was at their wedding that we developed an attraction for one another. Our first date was a hike to the top of a local hill to share a picnic lunch, and from that point until now, we have never been apart. We have been married for almost ten years and our love for one another grows stronger each passing year. About five years ago, we decided to dedicate our lives to raising a child, but problems with infertility have prevented us from having a biological child. We remain, however, very dedicated to raising a child and we are excited to grow our family through adoption.
We live in a quiet neighborhood in the wine country with our four-year old English Setter, Lili. She is a loving and sweet dog, always ready for an adventure, but also quite comfortable just hanging out at home. We purchased our home nine years ago, and the floor plan is centered on a very large kitchen/dining room area, as well as a large living room. Tracy possesses a green thumb, so our house is surrounded by roses, jasmine, wisteria, and numerous types of flowers, not to mention a large vegetable garden, herb garden, and a variety of fruit trees. We are fortunate to live just across the street from a local park, which has a large grass area for play, as well as a large and newly installed children’s playground. Even nicer, the path through the park leads directly to the neighborhood elementary school, with baseball diamonds, soccer fields, and basketball courts.
Gantry is a commercial pilot with a major airline, and he will be retiring as an officer in the Air Force Reserves within a year. Always ambitious, with an eye for the future, he recently graduated from law school with a Juris Doctorate degree, and has plans to be a part-time attorney in the estate-planning field. He is a voracious reader, dedicated to fitness, and has a strong affinity for anything cooked on a barbeque grill.
Tracy holds a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy and practices as an orthopedic outpatient physical therapist, a job that she loves. Tracy is an extremely compassionate, caring person who is always upbeat and positive. These qualities will not only make her an excellent mother, but it also endears her to her patients. Tracy is by far the most requested therapist in her clinic. She also loves to garden, is very crafty with a sewing machine, and is an amazingly talented baker. Fortunately, we both have jobs that allow for great flexibility in our schedules, something that we will take advantage of with a child in the home.
We are committed to raising a child in a stable and nurturing home full of love. We strongly believe that we are able to provide a safe, solid foundation upon which a child can develop and grow. We particularly value three things that we would make the underpinning of our child’s development: time with family and friends; education and the love of learning; as well as adventure and an active lifestyle.
First, we both come from loving families with wonderful parents. Gantry’s parents are already fantastic grandparents to his sister’s three children, and while Tracy’s parents are not yet grandparents, they eagerly await that day. We also spend a lot of time with our friends and consider ourselves very close with nearly a dozen of their children. Second, the fact that both of us have advanced degrees reveals the importance we place on education. Even more than that, however, we understand how crucial it is to create an atmosphere at home where learning is supported, encouraged, and made fun. Finally, we both share a love of adventure and participate in an active lifestyle. Whether we travel far, or stick close to home, we are constantly exploring new places by foot, by bike, by car, or by air. We believe it is important for a child to have an upbringing that exposes them to a wide horizon of adventures, experiences, and exploration.
We hope that we have given you a peek into who we are, how we live, and the values that we hold close. We firmly believe in sharing with our child his or her adoption story. We sincerely hope that you will want to know more about us. We have assembled a book that contains much more detail about the things in this letter, our plans for the future, and letters from those that know us best, plus dozens of pictures from our life.
