I can only imagine how difficult the decision to choose an adoption plan for your child must be. I think it is a brave, courageous decision to make and I would look upon it as a precious gift to be able to raise your child.
My name is Barb and I have dreamed of being a mother since I was a child. I was married for a few years in my twenties, but sadly we divorced and never had children. I hoped I would meet someone to start a family with, but that didn’t happen. I often thought adoption would be a good option for me, and ten years ago, I adopted my daughter, Tianna. She was 11 days old.
Being Tianna’s mom, with its joys, challenges and many rewards, has been the most wonderful experience of my life. I’m ready to do it again and Tianna is eager to have a brother or sister!
I have been a Grade 3 teacher for 18 years. I am also the music teacher for Grades 1, 2 and 3. I care deeply about my students and we learn from each other. Obviously, education is important to me. I work hard to support Tianna with her learning and she loves school! I do whatever I can to encourage her to reach her full potential and I will do the same for my next child.
We live in a cosmopolitan, multi-cultural city. It is considered to be the most ethnically integrated city in Canada. More than one-third of the region’s residents are non-Caucasian. Diversity is accepted and respected. We currently live in a two-bedroom apartment in an amazing neighborhood. The beach is about 6 blocks away and so is the seawall, where we walk and ride bikes. There are many parks nearby, including the 3rd largest city park in North America. The community center, library and swimming pools are all within walking distance. Once our new family member is about a year old, we will move to a three-bedroom home.
My extended family is familiar and comfortable with trans-racial adoption. Over 30 years ago, my aunt and uncle adopted two girls from Korea. Our family warmly welcomed them, as they did Tianna. They will definitely welcome another child.Family is very important to all of us. We are caring, loving and supportive of family members. We are committed to being there for each other no matter what. Children are an important focus for all of us; the children in our family are cherished and receive a lot of attention. They are truly the great joy of our lives. Your child would be loved unconditionally and always by my family, my friends and me.
My religious background is Protestant Christian. Tianna and I don’t attend church weekly, but we go to my parents’ church whenever we visit them. Tianna has made a few friends there. I have a strong faith in God and believe in being an honest, caring, loyal, dedicated, generous, accepting, respectful person who gives back to her community. This is how I am raising Tianna and will also raise a new child.
I am willing to have whatever level of openness you are comfortable with. I think it is helpful, healthy and positive for a child to have some concept of his or her birthparent(s). Since I live a great distance away, meeting in person would be rare, but I would be happy to provide you with photographs, letters, emails, and phone calls throughout the years.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to ask. I think choosing to make an adoption plan for your child is one of the most selfless decisions a parent can make.
I am a deeply committed person. When I decide to do something, I put my heart and soul into it and do the very best that I can. If I have the privilege and honor of raising your child, I will be completely dedicated to being the best parent I can be to your child, our child.
